U.S. Imposes India Travel Ban and Consulates Cancel Appointments

On April 30, President Biden issued a Proclamation than bans the entry into the U.S. of foreign nationals traveling from India. This ban will take effect May 4, 2021.

The Proclamation will bar entry to those individuals who have been present in India for 14 days prior to seeking entry into the U.S. The ban does not apply to U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents (green card holders) and a limited number of other individuals such as key health workers.

In light of India travel ban, all routine visa appointments, both in-person and interview waiver, at U.S. Embassy New Delhi and the Consulates in Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Mumbai are cancelled until further notice. Emergency services for U.S. citizens will continue.

The U.S. State Department has issued a Level 4 travel advisory warning against travel to India because of the surging Covid cases.
