Poorvi Chothani is the Founder and Managing Partner of LawQuest, a global immigration law firm, with offices in Mumbai, Florida, and New York. She is licensed to practice law in India, the UK, and the U.S. (New York).
Her practice focuses on global immigration and Indian employment law. A seasoned veteran in the field, Poorvi advises companies through major immigration policy changes and leads LawQuest’s global immigration practice, which supports U.S. and international immigration compliance, HR functions, and mobility services.

Poorvi has been a founding member and past Chair of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA)’s Global Migration Section (GMS). She has also been a founding member of the AILA’s Bangkok District Chapter (BDC) and has served multiple terms on its steering committees. She also organized the BDC’s unique Annual Conference in Chennai, serving as Conference Chair. Poorvi currently serves on AILA’s DOS Liaison Committee and continues to be an active member of the BDC and AILA’s South Florida Chapters.
Poorvi also holds the position of Vice Chair of the India and Immigration committees at the American Bar Association (ABA) and is Conference Liaison Officer in the Immigration committee at the International Bar Association (IBA). Poorvi has held multiple leadership roles at the International Bar Association (IBA) and is the current Co-Chair of the IBA’s Immigration and Nationality Law Committee.
Poorvi has been the past President of the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce’s Western Region, The American Alumni Association (AAA), Mumbai, the Convener of the Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF), Mumbai Chapter and a founding member of the New York State Bar Association’s (NYSBA) India Chapter.
She has contributed several articles in leading publications (print and electronic) on several legal matters. She has also authored extensive chapters on U.S. consular processing for the Consular Handbook published by the ILW and AILA and has written on a similar topic for Interpreter Releases and is also the author of the India chapter on Consular Processing, published by AILA. Poorvi is ranked as a Global Elite Thought Leader by Lexology and frequently authors articles on global immigration and mobility issues. Poorvi is often quoted in the Economic Times, Business Standard, Business Today, Quartz.com, Money Control, Financial Express, Rediff, Livemint, CNBC-TV 18, BOOM Live TV, Zee Business News and on radio.
Poorvi is actively involved in fund raising activities for education related charities and under her leadership, the team at LawQuest renders pro-bono services to several charitable institutes throughout the year. She runs her law firm on the principles of Vedanta following the Theory of Karma. LawQuest encourages women at the workplace by offering them flexibility and insisting on work-life balance and was for a long time an all women law firm, frequently featured in the media.
LawQuest has also published “Global Mobility Handbook – An Overview for Human Resource Professionals” which provides an overview of immigration requirements in key jurisdictions to help HR professionals and global mobility personnel stay abreast with the changing regimes globally.
