By Birth: If a person is born in India on or after January 26, 1950, but before July 1, 1987, they are considered a citizen of India irrespective of the nationality of their parents. For those born between July 1, 1987, and December 3, 2004, at least one parent must be an Indian citizen at the time of birth. After December 3, 2004, both parents must be Indian citizens, or one parent must be an Indian citizen, and the other must not be an illegal migrant.
