Exit permit for a US national’s new born baby

Nature of the Problem:

One of our clients, a US national was on an Employment Visa in India.  He was accompanied by his wife and a minor child on this assignment.  After a couple of years, the US national’s spouse gave birth to a baby boy at a hospital while in India.

Immigration Issue:

During the delivery, due to the negligence of the hospital staff, the new born baby lost vision in both his eyes.  The devastated family had to urgently take him to the U.S. for further treatment.  Since the new born baby did not have a passport or a visa, they had to obtain an emergency travel document to leave the country.  However, they also needed an exit permit for the baby.

Solution by LQ:

LawQuest team assisted this client with obtaining an exit permit for the baby from the FRRO. Poorvi Chothani and I accompanied the applicant to the FRRO and stayed with him till the exit permit was granted.

Positive Outcome:

Immediately upon receiving the exit permit, the family left for the U.S.
