The USCIS has issued a revised version of Form 1-9, the use of which will become mandatory beginning September 18, 2017. The Form I-9 is used by employers for verifying identity and employment authorization of newly hired employees. The key change in the new form is the revision related to the list of acceptable documents for I-9 verification which include the addition of the Consular Report of Birth Abroad (Form FS-240) to List C. Instructions to Form I-9 are also updated, and the changes to the form will be included in an updated Handbook for Employers: Guidance for Completing Form I-9 (M-274). Employers should become familiar with the new I-9 forms and should ensure that their HRs tarnsistion to its use beginning September 18th.
